Shownotes are below!

I’ll be using performance enhancers.

France 1 – 2 Japan

  • Textbook to the point of predictable?
  • Terrible goalkeeping

Canada 3 – 4 USA

  • Possibly the greatest game I’ve ever seen, from an excitement standpoint.
  • Controversial, but legal call
    • Wambach being clever
    • Herdman with whiny bitchsquealing, lost this game for Canada
    • I’d say Canada were robbed if that IFK/PK call resulted in the 4th goal, but Canada had the same amount of time to pull ahead.
  • Why Canada should have won.

Canada 1 – 0 France

  • The trouble with France is that they expect to show up, be France, and handed a win. This has never worked for them, I don’t know why they keep doing it.
  • Historic for Canada, though
    • And how cool is it that Matheson scored the goal?
    • And how cool is it that Kara Lang gets to be there to help cover this historic moment?
    • ALL OF THE COOL
    • Golden Boot for Sinc = A+

USA 2 -1 Japan

  • Carli Lloyd with 2 goals
    • Re: Postgame statements
      • So when Rapinoe got a starting job, she earned it back, but when Lloyd does, she’s proving doubters wrong?
      • Does she get more criticism because she’s a woman, because she’s in a team sport, or because otherwise she’s seen as dull?
  • The US defense looking like clown shoes
  • That stupid t-shirt
    • People are still crying over the fact that Krieger isn’t on the team/didn’t get a medal – I’m sorry, WHAT?
      • 2008: Osborne? Wambach? Cat?
        • Look, they’re not as OMG SO PRETTY, so they don’t deserve medals.
          • Cat has the best hair on the national team. I don’t know what you’re talking about.

The Bee in Hope Solo’s Book Sales

New League?

  • What is with the timing of this announcement? Would one day’s wait have been so impossible?
    • TIMING IS EVERYTHING. Remember when they announced WPS was folding?
  • Seriousness:
    • This is the last chance. For real this time.
    • WNY and Philly are not (yet) involved and weren’t really aware of what was going on
    • Carli Lloyd said the WNT hadn’t heard much about it, which is ridic – they’ve known about it for a couple months
      • Maybe she was just too focused on herself to notice the big picture

COLLEGE SEASON IS STARTING

  • First weekend!
    • Pilots 1 – 0 UNC – I could not handle watching
    • BELOVED ANTEATERS FALL TO BYU
    • Penn State 3 – 1 UVA
    • Stanford 6-1 SCU :(
    • Miami 3-0 Florida (IT WAS HOT OKAY)
    • But really, the U-20s and coaches weren’t here, so everyone has excuses
  • What games are we going to?
    • Ruth: Stanford-Penn State (!!!), Maryland-UVA, a Rutgers game, and a Notre Dame game (Georgetown/Villanova). Possibly a DePaul game (also Georgetown/Nova) and Fairfield-Rider (in NJ)
      • This pretty much hinges on my lack of employment/staying in the Northeast
    • Joan: Portland-Notre Dame
  • Things that have already happened:
    • Canadians and their last minuteness
      • Adriana Leon to Florida, Diamond Simpson to Memphis, Lexi Marton and her asdfj;skldajfk;las ACL
    • One of Ruth’s favorite matchups: Notre Dame 2-0 over UVA in exhibition
      • Followed by ND losing 1-0 to Wisconsin (7 FRESHMEN STARTED, IDK)
      • and PSU 3-1 over UVA at UVA
      • And holy crap, the loss of U-20s is seriously hitting some teams, I think

U-20s

  • Games start tomorrow! 2 A.M. ET
  • Julie Johnston in a boot (oh Broncos)
  • Olivia Brannon – recovering from meniscus
    • Kaili Torres started for UVA!
  • Follow Cross-Conference on twitter and the blog for alllll the updates

Thanks, Elizabeth! Feel free to voice any disagreements. We welcome dissent and we almost never mock. ;)
